Pipeline Project Proposal: The Psychology of Nightmares

A stop motion film exploring the psychology of nightmares

I envision this video being an artistic interpretation of those physical feelings humans get when experiencing nightmares such as the inability to run away from something, the inability to scream when in danger, the feeling of falling, etc. I would like to put all of these ideas together into a narrative that leave a lot of information up for interpretation in order to allow the viewer to see the video as if they were remembering bits and pieces of a nightmare they had had the night before. I would like to include the mediums of photography, illustration, and animation for the imagery, as well as fashion and fine arts in the creation of props and costumes.

Oops! I forgot to publish my post with timelines and project rolls!

Project Rolls:
Since I am new to this campus and am unfamiliar with peoples strengths I am open to the positions and would like to pick them out once I know who is interested in the project.

Timeline:
Week 1: Brainstorming/Planning
Week 2: Preparing/Gathering Props
Week 3: Create storyline/Begin Shooting
Week 4: Complete all images/film
Week 5: Compile/Edit/Finish Film

  1. Very cool experimental video idea. I like what I see in the inspiration videos but I'm curious to know more about roles, schedules, etc for the project since it will be a group project that it will need to be very organized.

  2. I Like the idea of nightmare. It would be really interesting to see how the final project turn out since the images we see in dreams are perceived differently from person to person. This is something I would like to work on. I like the reference videos as well, they have very eerie feelings.

  3. I like the simpleness of it, leave it up the the viewers to put the pieces together. I feel like to have a successful project It has to be relatable with twist. I would be happy to join this project if its chosen.

  4. This project sounds interesting. I have completed a dream sequence for video 2, although not a nightmare or anything, but more abstract view of a dream. I also do find when I try running in a nightmare, it's just impossible to run away from whatever is chasing you. I wonder what it would turn out like.

  8. I loved playing portraying feelings and emotions through video in my last project and it seems that that is a big part of your proposal. I would love to help out on this project and get to the essence of dreams. Are you thinking the final product will be in the way Michael Robinson does his videos, or more of a structured way?

  9. What do you imagining the final film looking like? Are you more focused on a style used in one of the inspirational videos? Do you plan on doing something different? What will the video consist of? Also, what sort of roles are you envisioning and how are you envisioning them being organized? Is there a timeline in mind? At what points do you imagine key portions of the video being done by? Those being said, I like the idea of the project. Might be interesting to see finalized.

  10. I like this idea of nightmares and life. Introducing psychology is a very interesting and complicated area. Using the life of people nobody would ever think about may even provide an in-depth purpose into creating this process. I really like where this is going, and I would love to work with you on this project, as I am very well knowledgeable in psychology, and I love this kind of topic. :) Keep Calm, and Carry On!

  11. Nightmares!! This sounds like a project that will encompass each artists technical skills in their field of study! I think this idea sparks so many avenues to explore as far as the visual representation of the nightmares we come up with. I would be willing to provide a variety of different skills pertaining to whatever we decide to do!! :)
